AI in business and the enterprise news:

Recent AI news stories that caught our (and Perplexity AI’s!) eye over the last week:

  • Enterprise technology’s next chapter: Four gen AI shifts that will reshape business technology (McKinsey Digital, December 2, 2024)

    • “Our recent discussions with tech leaders across industries suggest that four emerging shifts are on the horizon as a result of gen AI, each with implications for how tech leaders will run their organizations. These include new patterns of work, architectural foundations, and organizational and cost structures that change both how teams interact with AI and the role gen AI agents play.”

    • “Only 30 percent of organizations surveyed earlier this year said they use gen AI in IT and software engineering and have seen significant quantifiable impact. Moreover, organizations will need to understand and address the many risks of gen AI—including security, privacy, and explainability—in order to take advantage of the opportunities. But tech leaders we spoke with indicated that their organizations are already laying the groundwork.”

  • Marc Benioff, chair and CEO of Salesforce and owner of TIME: “How the Rise of New Digital Workers Will Lead to an Unlimited Age” (Time, November 25, 2024)

    • “We are now entering a new era of autonomous AI agents that take action on their own and augment the work of humans. This isn’t just an evolution of technology. It’s a revolution that will fundamentally redefine how humans work, live, and connect with one another from this point forward.”

    • “Harnessing the power of agentic AI effectively will require a multistakeholder approach–businesses, governments, nonprofits, and academia working together to create guardrails and guidelines. We are already seeing some of this in efforts such as the framework by the G7 nations emphasizing accountability, transparency, safety and data privacy. Another example is the Bletchley Declaration by 28 countries and the European Union that emerged from the UK AI Safety Summit that I and other tech CEOs attended last year, agreeing to collaborate on AI safety and development.”

  • Dell’s stock falls on weak guidance, as more customers hold off for next-gen AI servers (SiliconANGLE, November 26, 2024)

    • “The company is forecasting lower server sales, and blamed the shortfall on enterprise customers that are waiting to snap up new systems powered by Nvidia Corp.’s next-generation Blackwell graphics processing unit chips and therefore shifting to later orders, some of which won’t be reflected in the current quarter.”

    • “‘Dell Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke (pictured) told analysts on a conference call that growth of artificial intelligence server sales is likely to swing quite wildly from quarter to quarter due to the pace of innovation in that industry. “This business will not be linear, especially as customers navigate the underlying silicon roadmap that is changing,” he said.”

    • ““We saw in the third quarter a pretty rapid shift of the orders towards our Blackwell designs,” he said, pointing to a pipeline of future AI server orders that now stands at $4.5 billion. “We’re only in the very early innings of enterprises learning how to deploy AI,” he added.”

  • NMSU partners with MIT, Boston College to launch NSF AI education study (New Mexico State University, November 26, 2024)

    • “A $2.5 million National Science Foundation award will fund New Mexico State University, MIT and Boston College researchers’ efforts to produce AI education materials that are age and developmentally appropriate for students in K-12 schools.”

    • ““Our overall goal is to significantly enhance the learning and teaching of AI so students can become critical consumers aware of how AI was created and how it works, informed citizens who can discuss privacy and security issues related to AI, as well as thoughtful stakeholders who participate in deciding when, how, and why AI should be integrated into our lives or not,” Lee said.”

  • NASSCOM launches Developer’s Playbook for Responsible AI in India (Yourstory, November 29, 2024)

    • “The NASSCOM Responsible AI Hub, in collaboration with law firm Anand & Anand, has launched The Developer’s Playbook for Responsible AI in India—a framework to assist developers to identify and mitigate risks associated with the development, deployment, and use of artificial intelligence.”

AAIA Chapters updates:

We’ll be introducing a Chapter President to you each week.  This week, we feature Robert Radusinovic, AAIA Chapter President for San Francisco, CA, USA:

Bio:

Robert Radusinovic is a visionary leader who brings over a decade of experience in enterprise innovation, business growth, and go-to-market strategies to his role as President of AAIA's San Francisco Chapter. His extensive background spans building innovative solutions in enterprise technology, with a focus on bridging emerging technologies with practical business applications. Robert's unique perspective comes from successfully scaling both technical enterprises and wellness-focused businesses, giving him a holistic understanding of how technology can enhance both business operations and human experiences. Drawing from his experience in building communities and fostering partnerships at companies like Comcast, HTEC and Verizon, Robert approaches AI advancement with a people-first mindset, believing that technology should serve to enhance human potential rather than replace it.

Why I am excited to be an AAIA Chapter President:

Leading the San Francisco chapter represents an extraordinary opportunity to bridge the gap between AI innovation and practical implementation while fostering a community that supports everyone from students to seasoned professionals. The rapid evolution of AI creates both excitement and uncertainty, and I'm energized by the chance to help guide our community through this transformative period with empathy and expertise.

What I hope to accomplish in the upcoming year in my Chapter:

My primary goal is to create a vibrant, inclusive ecosystem where students, professionals, and industry leaders can come together to share knowledge, build meaningful connections, and collaboratively shape the future of applied AI in the Bay Area. I aim to establish programs that address the full spectrum of AI implementation challenges - from technical expertise to ethical considerations - while providing clear pathways for career development and professional growth in the AI field.

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, meet and join Robert at the AAIA San Francisco Chapter’s inaugural event on Thursday, December 12, 2024.  Sign up for the event here.
