AI in business and the enterprise news:

Recent AI news stories that caught our (and Perplexity AI’s!) eye over the last week:

  • Artificial intelligence in UK financial services - 2024 (Bank of England, November 21, 2024)

    • “75% of firms are already using artificial intelligence (AI), with a further 10% planning to use AI over the next three years. This is higher than the figures in the 2022 joint Bank of England (Bank) and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Machine learning in UK financial services, of 58% and 14% respectively.”

    • “A third of all AI use cases are third-party implementations. This is greater than the 17% we found in the 2022 survey and supports the view that third-party exposure will continue to increase as the complexity of models increases and outsourcing costs decrease.”

    • “The largest perceived non-regulatory constraint is safety, security and robustness of AI models, followed by insufficient talent and access to skills.”

  • C3 AI and Capgemini extend partnership to accelerate Enterprise AI for business transformation (Capgemini, November 20, 2024)

    • “This partnership combines the power of C3 AI’s Enterprise AI applications with Capgemini’s deep industry expertise and proven global implementation capabilities and capacity. Together, the two companies will deliver Enterprise AI solutions tailored to specific industries including life sciences, energy, utilities, government, banking, and manufacturing. To drive this partnership extension, Capgemini will expand its dedicated C3 AI global practice, focused on delivering Enterprise AI solutions to joint clients across industries at scale, with rapid time to value.”

  • As ChatGPT Turns Two, Business Schools Double Down on AI Integration in Classroom (Financial Post, November 25, 2024)

    • “Earlier this year, GMAC’s survey of over 4,000 prospective business school students around the world revealed a significant jump in the number of candidates who say AI is essential to their ideal business school curriculum—now up to 40 percent. Later in the year, GMAC’s survey of nearly 1,000 corporate recruiters worldwide—half from Global Fortune 500 companies—showed that employers, though not too concerned about business school graduates’ knowledge of AI just yet, anticipated its importance to grow immensely in the next five years.”

  • AI Boom Makes 139-Year-Old Cable Company Japan’s Hottest Stock (Yahoo! Finance/Bloomberg, November 25, 2024)

    • “The demand for data centers has skyrocketed since around 2022,” said Kazuhito Iijima, Fujikura’s chief financial officer, in an interview. “We didn’t quite understand it that well at that time, but it became clear this year that it was all about AI.”

  • ServiceNow's Amit Zavery: SaaS customers don't care how you build GenAI (Runtime, November 21, 2024)

    • “No matter what happens in the end, this era of enterprise software will be studied forever as the dawn of a new era of corporate productivity or the most hyped money pit since the metaverse. Enterprise software veteran Amit Zavery has seen many of these cycles, and he believes the key to success this time around is making sure SaaS customers don't need to confront the complexity of AI models.”

    • “I don't think there's going to be a huge amount of model companies. I think the reality is setting that one, it is expensive to build models, and second it is harder to even monetize, right? If you look at most of the startups out there who are building the models, they might be getting into much more specific use cases, versus trying to be very generic. There's going to be three, four, very deep as well as generic models. You talk about OpenAI and Gemini and Anthropic, and I feel those will be the big, big providers.”

  • AI can now create a replica of your personality (MIT Technology Review, November 20, 2024)

    • “Imagine sitting down with an AI model for a spoken two-hour interview. A friendly voice guides you through a conversation that ranges from your childhood, your formative memories, and your career to your thoughts on immigration policy. Not long after, a virtual replica of you is able to embody your values and preferences with stunning accuracy.”

    • ““If you can have a bunch of small ‘yous’ running around and actually making the decisions that you would have made—that, I think, is ultimately the future,” Park says.”

  • AI-Powered Robot Leads Uprising, Talks a Dozen Showroom Bots into 'Quitting Their Jobs' in 'Terrifying' Security Footage (The Latin Times, November 18, 2024)

    • “A viral video showing an AI-powered robot in China convincing other robots of "quitting their jobs" and following it has sparked fear and fascination about the capabilities of advanced AI.”
